When looking at the press release, we found the names of the writers of the screenplay for The Matrix 4. So this project has clearly been in the works for a while. We had started to hear rumblings about the film project’s existence a few months ago, but waited for Warner Bros. to make an official announcement.
So, apparently, there is a screenplay for the film, and it was written by these folks:
- Aleksandar Hemon – An author who is best known for his books Nowhere Man and The Lazarus Project. He previously appeared in an episode of the Wachowski Netflix series Sense8.
- David Mitchell – Best known for his novel Cloud Atlas which the Wachowskis adapted to the screen, he also appeared in an episode of Sense8.
- Lana Wachowski – Co-writer and co-creator of The Matrix Trilogy.
We don’t yet know what the story is going to be about, just that Neo and Trinity are returning with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss playing the roles once more.
The Matrix 4 is likely to film sometime in 2020. My guess is that it could see a 2021 release date, if it gets going fast enough, but I could also see a 2022 release as well.
The matrix 4 will either redeem or forver destroy this series. I work in the industry on the technical side. I wish I could talk with Lana. I actually penned a 2 part matrix 4 and 5 that would fix and bring new life to it. We shall see what they will do.
