The Matrix 4, which currently paused production in Berlin (but might restart next month) has been delayed from May 21, 2021 to April 1, 2022 due to the production shut down as a result of the pandemic. UPDATE: And then it was pushed back into 2021 again, for a (final?) release date planned for December 22, 2021.
The Matrix 4 is a co-production of Warner Brothers and Village Roadshow, which has been the co-financier of The Matrix trilogy.
Warner Brothers had the latter date on hold, and it’s the weekend after Disney opens Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on March 25.
There is still very little (i.e. nothing) known about the plot of The Matrix 4. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are both returning in their roles as Neo and Trinity, and there is a huge new cast of characters joining them in the film.
The Matrix 4 will be in theaters on on HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
Better late than never… right?
I can’t even express how much I’m looking forward to seeing this in IMAX. I was 10 when the Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions came out and it was my dream to see it there but I lived too far from it and was sad for months when my parents told me we can’t go!
