While not exactly related to the Matrix, there is a very slight link. Keanu Reeves will be appearing in the film 47 Ronin, which is scheduled for release on November 12, 2012. The screenplay for that film was written by Chris Morgan, who Universal is interested in hiring to write the fifth Terminator film if they get the film rights.
Morgan also wrote the screenplays for both the third and the upcoming fifth Fast and the Furious films: The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast Five. I remember hearing that Tokyo Drift was a better film than the second one, and the fourth wasn’t as good as the third. The interesting thing is that, the first and third films had similar budgets, at $38 and $40 million, and the second and fourth films had similar budgets at $76 and $85 million. The lesson? Spend less and you’ll have a better film, Universal. No word on the budget of the fifth film, not that I really care.. I haven’t seen any of these.
He also wrote Cellular and Wanted.
Now Universal is interested in acquiring the Terminator franchise from Pacificor, and working on a new film. Whether it is a sequel or reboot, we won’t know for some time, but I am curious to see how this pans out.
Parts of the storylines for The Matrix and Terminator are very similar, with machines attempting to or succeeding in taking over the world.
And yes, this was a story to help keep the site alive. 🙂
